Accommodations

Hotel Information

When it first opened its doors in 1954, the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel stood as a monument to modern design and architecture. The first of the many masterpieces that the legendary Morris Lapidus would create, the lobby was adorned by crystal chandeliers, circular ceilings, and a staircase to nowhere, all signatures of his work, which was described as looking like a movie set; in fact, it was not uncommon to find real movie stars among the Fontainebleau glitterati. Elvis, Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, and other stars were all drawn there.

For decades, the Fontainebleau reigned as the Crown Jewel in Miami Beach. Never since has there been another hotel as aesthetically forward-thinking as the revered Fontainebleau—never, that is, until now.

The new Fontainebleau Miami Beach is destined to be the most dynamic and coveted resort destination on the Eastern Seaboard. Building on a foundation of fame, the Fontainebleau returns as a spectacular blend of Miami Beach’s golden era and the ultimate in contemporary luxury, unparalleled comfort, and impeccable service.

Following a spectacular $1 billion investment, renovation, and expansion, the Fontainebleau will be better than ever. A stunning transformation across 22 acres of breathtaking oceanfront, Fontainebleau's rebirth will set a new standard for meetings. Best of all, you will discover a 150,000-square-foot sophisticated, technologically advanced meeting space to cater to every size group from board meetings to conventions.

Applying for a Visa to the United States

If you need to apply for a temporary nonimmigrant visa to attend the 2009 Miami Breast Cancer Conference (MBCC), you are advised to apply for your visa as soon as travel to the United States is contemplated and no later than 3-4 months in advance. Individuals traveling to the United States are advised to begin their visa application process immediately. If your country is on the State Sponsors of Terrorism list, you should start the application process at least 6 months in advance of the meeting.

You'll find a Letter of Information to apply for a visa in the registration package (PDF).

Visa Application Guidelines

Keep the following guidelines in mind as you apply for a nonimmigrant temporary visa to travel to the United States:

  • As part of new security procedures, visa applications are being sent to the US State Department in Washington, DC, to be thoroughly reviewed; this process can take several months before the consulate in your home country will schedule your interview. Check with your local US consulate or embassy to find out how early you should apply at http://travel.state.gov/visa/questions_embassy.html and how long the typical wait time is for a visa application within your home country at http://travel.his.com/visa/tempvisitors_wait.php.
  • All applicants must be able to qualify for a visa on their own merits under the requirements of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
  • Physicians' Education Resource cannot intervene with either the US State Department or an American embassy in another country on behalf of any meeting participant.
  • Investigate whether your country participates in the Visa Waiver Program to bypass the visa process altogether. Beginning October 26, 2004, ALL citizens of the Visa Waiver Program are required to have Machine-Readable Passports (MRPs) in order to travel to the United States without a visa. Without a MRP, you will be required to apply for a visa.
  • Beginning September 30, 2004, all foreign visitors (including Visa Waiver Program travelers) will be fingerprinted and photographed upon arrival in the United States.
  • The International Visitors Office (IVO) of the National Academies has excellent resources on all visa-related issues for the National Academies, Academy members, and the scientific community.

Official Documentation for Attendees and/or Presenters

The MBCC provides several documents that will document your participation in the national meeting and exposition. Please note that Physicians’ Education Resource cannot intervene with either the US State Department or an American embassy in another country on behalf of any meeting participant:

  • Official Letter of Invitation for Meeting Attendees: The MBCC offers an official Letter of Invitation to the MBCC. You can submit this letter with your visa application to verify the name, dates, location, and purpose of the 2009 MBCC. If you require a Letter of Invitation, please download the registration package (PDF).
  • Registration Confirmation: Once you have registered for the meeting, you should receive an e-mail confirmation. You can also bring your registration confirmation paperwork to your visa interview. If you do not receive an e-mail confirmation, please send an inquiry to info@cancerconf.com.

Send your questions to: MBCC 2009; 3500 Maple Ave., Ste. 700; Dallas, TX 75219 or e-mail info@cancerconf.com.
