Conference Overview

Conference Description & Purpose

Located on the Riverwalk, just a 15-minute walk from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss strategies for patients with early-stage, advanced, or metastatic breast cancer, including optimizing the use of chemotherapy, integrating novel targeted agents into treatment, and managing treatment-related adverse effects. The relevance of data reported at recent international oncology conferences to physician practice will also be discussed.

Target Audience

This educational program is directed toward medical oncologists interested in reviewing the most recent clinical trial data on the treatment of breast cancer. Surgical and radiation oncologists and other health professionals interested in the treatment of breast cancer are also invited to attend.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this meeting, you should be able to:

  • Evaluate recent results from adjuvant endocrine trials and related substudies
  • Review data regarding the efficacy and toxicity of anthracycline-, taxane-, and antimetabolite-based regimens, including both conventional and novel formulations as well as novel cytotoxic agents, in the treatment of breast cancer
  • Assess strategies for ameliorating treatment-related adverse events
  • Discuss antibodies and small-molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitors targeting HER2 and their integration into current treatment algorithms
  • Evaluate novel agents targeting the angiogenesis pathway and their integration into current treatment regimens for breast cancer
  • Apply results from clinical trials to common case scenarios
  • Discuss controversial treatment issues in the management of patients with breast cancer
  • Describe novel biologic agents in clinical development, including angiogenesis inhibitors and agents that modify signal transduction or augment the activity of current targeted therapies
  • Apply results from clinical trials to common patient case scenarios
