Oncology CME-Certified Symposium
This minisymposium is held in conjunction with the 2009 Pan Pacific Lymphoma Conference.
Management of hematologic malignancies, including indolent NHL, MCL, and CLL, remains a clinical challenge due to diversity in presentation, biology, and prognosis. The incorporation of monoclonal antibodies into chemotherapy regimens has dramatically changed the therapeutic landscape in indolent NHL and CLL. However, effective standards of care for many of these B-cell malignancies are still undefined. Moreover, development of refractory disease and toxicity issues with current chemoimmunotherapy regimens limit their long-term use, underscoring the need for more effective regimens. Several clinical efforts are evaluating the safety and efficacy of newer monoclonal antibodies and cytotoxic agents and defining risk-adapted therapies in the context of current treatment options for indolent NHL and CLL; these efforts will be addressed in the Defining a Standard of Care for Indolent NHL and CLL: A 2009 Perspective symposium. Emphasis will be placed on conveying the key findings reported at recent meetings that will most directly impact optimal physician practice. The practical applicability of such evolving clinical trial findings in making treatment decisions for patients with FL and CLL will be debated by key thought leaders in the field.
