Conference Overview
This activity is presented by Physicians’ Education Resource in conjunction with the University of California, Davis Cancer Center and the support of community oncologists from diverse practices within Northern California (Kaiser Permanente, Sacramento Center for Hematology and Medical Oncology, Capitol Hematology Oncology, and Sierra Hematology Oncology).
The 10th Annual Advances in Oncology program will bring together academic and community physicians for the purpose of educating participants on the state-of-the-art clinical management of a wide variety of solid and hematologic malignancies. The timing of this meeting in September allows for the latest findings in clinical cancer research from major international oncology conferences to be presented. This educational activity has been designed to update physicians on recent advances and new diagnostic and treatment modalities in the management of hematologic, colorectal, lung, genitourinary, and breast cancers. This symposium also meets a unique need for the Northern Sacramento Valley to provide a group of networked and collaborating oncologists to exchange and apply recent developments in oncology in the context of local treatment approaches, patient populations, referral patterns, and open clinical trials. This is reflected in the format providing ample time for panel discussions that involve a large array of local practicing oncologists. The program will include didactic sessions from leading faculty followed by extensive interactive case-based panel discussions involving community-based physicians to discuss solutions to clinical challenges that physicians face in their daily practice.

Registered Nurse: The California Board of Registered Nursing accepts AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM toward license renewal. On the BRN license renewal form, report the number of hours you attended (up to XX hours of credit) and fill in “CME Category 1” for the provider number.
California AB 1195: This activity complies with California Assembly Bill 1195, signed November 2005, requiring continuing medical education courses with patient care components to include curricula in the subject of cultural and linguistic competency. The planners, speakers and authors of this CME activity have been encouraged to address issues relevant in their topic area.
This educational program is directed toward medical, radiation, and surgical oncologists with an interest in recent advances in the treatment of solid tumors as well as hematologic malignancies. Fellows, oncology nurses, oncology physician assistants, and pharmacists are also invited to attend.At the conclusion of this symposium you should be able to:
- Discuss prognostic and predictive biomarkers and potential applications in therapeutic decision making
- Integrate targeted and traditional therapeutic modalities in the treatment of cancer
- Assess newly validated treatment options for patients with solid tumors or hematologic malignancies
- Apply data from clinical trials to determine the optimal course of therapy in defined patient populations
