Philadelphia, PA
September 16, 2009

Conference Overview

Summary and Purpose

Oncology CME-Certified Meeting

The Oncology Best Practices: Advances in Hematologic Malignancies meeting is designed to discuss current treatment options for aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma, including T-cell lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, incorporating updates presented at major national hematology conferences in 2008 and 2009. Novel agents in the treatment of hematologic malignancies will also be discussed. These topics will be addressed through presentations by key thought leaders, interactive case discussions, and question-and-answer opportunities.

Target Audience

This educational program is directed toward medical oncologists and hematologists interested in reviewing the most recent clinical trial data on the treatment of hematologic malignancies. Surgical and radiation oncologists and other health care professionals interested in the treatment of hematologic malignancies are also invited to attend.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this meeting, you should be able to:

  • Evaluate current treatment options in the management of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, including the use of monoclonal antibodies to improve survival
  • Describe recent advances in the management of mantle cell lymphoma with monoclonal antibodies, mTOR inhibitors, and immunomodulatory agents
  • Discuss the changing therapeutic paradigms for patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma, including the role of immunomodulatory agents and proteasome inhibitors as part of induction regimens and the optimal administration of steroids in transplantation-eligible patients
  • Assess current therapeutic options for patients with myeloma who are ineligible for transplantation
  • Evaluate the efficacy and safety of immunomodulatory agents and novel proteasome inhibitors in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma
  • Assess factors affecting outcome in patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma
  • Review the efficacy and safety of emerging treatments for B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas, including immunomodulatory agents, novel alkylating agents, proteasome inhibitors, novel monoclonal antibodies, and radioimmunotherapy
  • Apply data from clinical trials to determine the optimal course of therapy in defined patient populations
