Clinical Dilemmas in Breast Cancer: An Interactive Tumor Board Series

Houston Marriott West Loop by The Galleria
Houston, TX
November 21, 2009

Conference Overview

CME-Certified Tumor Board

Clinical Dilemmas in Breast Cancer: An Interactive Tumor Board Series is a live, interactive educational activity that will focus on 5 cases with presentations and discussions led by expert faculty members. Content will include optimal diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive maneuvers for early-stage breast cancer; application of the latest data on the optimal use and sequencing of hormonal agents; use of risk-benefit approaches to define appropriate adjuvant chemotherapy; and targeted therapy. Also included will be the use of cytotoxic and biologic neoadjuvant therapy and evidence-based approaches to the treatment of advanced disease for first-line and subsequent therapy. Audience participation in the discussion will be encouraged.

This educational series is directed toward medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists; physician assistants and oncology nurses; and other health care providers involved in the management of patients with cancer or interested in recent advances in the treatment of breast malignancies.

At the conclusion of this program, you should be able to:

  • Explain the proper breast cancer diagnostic and staging procedures and the relative merits and limitations of specific imaging, surgical, and pathologic techniques, including molecular profiling, for optimal therapeutic decision making
  • Evaluate current data on assays used for breast cancer risk assessment and describe the latest evidence regarding the prognostic and predictive utility of known biomarkers associated with disease outcome and response to therapy
  • Discuss the basis for systemic adjuvant therapy, the factors needed for optimal decision making, and the absolute and relative benefits and short- and long-term side effects in defined patient subgroups
  • Compare and contrast the benefits and side effects of established and newer systemic hormonal, cytotoxic, and biologic agents and regimens for advanced disease in specific clinical scenarios, including initial therapy, refractory disease, and in the context of clinically and biologically defined patient populations
