Conference Overview

Overview and Purpose

The Practical Updates in Oncology symposium is designed to educate community physicians on the state-of-the-art clinical management of a wide variety of solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. Lectures will highlight cutting-edge information and emerging treatment strategies for specific tumor types, and there will also be practical, case-based presentation of material. The Ethics presentation will cover key issues in patient communication and shared decision making. This symposium presents an opportunity for continuous dialogue and interaction between academic thought leaders and community oncologists.

Target Audience

This educational program is directed toward medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists and hematologists practicing in the community or academic setting who are interested in recent advances in the treatment of solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. Fellows, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, researchers, and other health care professionals interested in the treatment of cancer are also invited to attend.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this symposium, you should be able to:

  • Assess the efficacy and safety of targeted agents in the management of patients with solid tumors and hematologic malignancies
  • Identify results of recent clinical trials that are applicable to the management of patients with solid tumors and hematologic malignancies
