Conference Overview

Overview and Purpose

This activity is presented by Physicians’ Education Resource in conjunction with Fox Chase Cancer Center Partners.

Oncology Practice Reviews is a 2-day symposium designed to educate community physicians on the state-of-the-art clinical management of a wide variety of solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. Lectures will highlight cutting-edge information and emerging treatment strategies for specific tumor types, including breast cancer, genitourinary malignancies, gastrointestinal malignancies, lung cancer, melanoma, ovarian cancer, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and leukemia, in addition to other special topics unique to each meeting location. Experts will also present recent practice-changing data from international oncology conferences, with an emphasis on clinical applications. To enhance learning, participants will be engaged in solving “real-world” problems through practical, interactive, case-based presentations.

Target Audience
This educational program is directed toward medical oncologists and hematologists practicing in the community or academic setting who are interested in recent advances in the treatment of solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. Fellows, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, researchers, and other physicians who care for patients with cancer, such as surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, urologists, pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, family physicians, general practitioners, internists, cardiothoracic surgeons, general surgeons, gynecologists, radiologists, and pathologists, are also invited to attend.

Learning Objectives

  • Evaluate therapeutic approaches for patients with lung cancer, including new approaches in adjuvant therapy for resectable disease and frontline/maintenance approaches in metastatic disease
  • Assess predictive markers and new therapeutic strategies for patients with head and neck cancer
  • Assess therapeutic strategies for individual patients with renal cell carcinoma or prostate cancer based on currently approved therapies and individual tumor and patient characteristics
  • Discuss the safety and efficacy of novel targeted agents and immunotherapies, including vaccines and immunomodulatory agents, in the treatment of advanced melanoma
  • Evaluate the incorporation of targeted therapies into treatment regimens for ovarian cancer
  • Discuss the integration of targeted therapies and combinatorial strategies into treatment regimens for gastrointestinal malignancies, including patient selection criteria
  • Discuss the efficacy of standard and novel agents and combination regimens, including cytotoxic and targeted therapies, for the treatment of breast cancer
  • Assess the clinical utility of current standards of care and newer treatment options in the management of patients with chronic myeloid leukemia, myeloma, and lymphoma
  • Evaluate advances in supportive therapy for treatment-related toxicities in patients with solid tumors or hematologic malignancies
