Conference Overview

Overview and Purpose
The Rapid Reviews in Oncology: Breast Cancer Highlights program will update physicians on the latest clinical data emerging from recent international meetings in the area of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. This program will focus on key results with the potential to change practice in the field of breast oncology and will provide physicians with the necessary context to integrate the information into practice to improve treatment selection and patient care. This unique nationally broadcast program will feature presentations by leading experts in the field of breast oncology followed by an interactive session in which participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of the expert faculty.

Target Audience
This educational activity is designed to be of high clinical utility to medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, and radiation oncologists with an interest in the treatment of patients with breast cancer. Fellows, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, researchers, and other health care professionals interested in the treatment of breast cancer are also invited to attend.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this congress, you should be able to:

  • Evaluate genomic and proteomic tools for the estimation of recurrence risk, prediction of benefit from chemotherapy, and individualization of therapeutic decision-making
  • Evaluate adjuvant endocrine options for postmenopausal patients, including timing and sequencing of aromatase inhibitors in adjuvant regimens and the integration of bone-targeted agents
  • Determine the optimal treatment strategies for HER2+ breast cancer, including patient selection criteria
  • Describe the management of patients with chemotherapy-refractory advanced breast cancer, including the incorporation of novel cytotoxic and biologic agents
  • Review novel classes of targeted biologic agents and cytotoxic therapies currently under investigation for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer
  • Assess available and investigational agents for improving bone health in patients with breast cancer
