Sixth International Symposium on Ovarian Cancer and Other Gynecologic Malignancies
The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park
New York, NY
March 20-21, 2009

Conference Overview
The
Sixth International Symposium on Ovarian Cancer and Other Gynecologic Malignancies will provide participants with cutting-edge information on the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of these diseases. This symposium will focus on clinical and translational research in the areas of ovarian, uterine, and endometrial cancers, discussing not only standards of care and current guidelines but also the most promising novel chemotherapeutics and targeted agents. Controversies in combined modality approaches to and chemotherapeutic management of ovarian cancers as well as issues revolving around staging and treatment strategies for endometrial cancers will be debated. Didactic lectures, case-based discussions, and debates will provide participants with ample opportunities to learn from and interact with key opinion leaders in the field.
This educational program is directed toward medical, gynecologic, surgical, and radiation oncologists. Fellows, oncology nurses, oncology physician assistants, and pharmacists who are interested in the treatment of ovarian cancer and other gynecologic malignancies are also invited to attend.
At the conclusion of this symposium, you should be able to:
- Outline the role of HPV in the epidemiology of and discuss the utility of HPV vaccines for cervical cancer
- Summarize new developments in the biology of endometrial cancer
- Evaluate the applicability of screening patients who are at risk for ovarian cancer
- Evaluate the use of genomic, proteomic, and immunologic markers in the detection and diagnosis of gynecologic cancer
- Explain the current standard of care in the management of ovarian cancer
- Debate the roles of surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy in early-stage gynecologic malignancies
- Summarize the evidence supporting the use of intravenous or intraperitoneal chemotherapy following surgery in locally advanced ovarian cancer
- Discuss the controversial role of surgery, including surgical cytoreduction and robotic surgery, in the management of gynecologic cancers
- Assess current data supporting the use of radiation therapy for locally advanced endometrial cancer
- Describe the current chemotherapeutic and surgical options in the management of recurrent ovarian cancer
- Outline the potential of targeted therapies, including antiangiogenic agents and inhibitors of HER2, EGFR and other multitargeted kinases, mTOR, protein kinase C, and HDAC, in the treatment of gynecologic cancers
- Evaluate the controversies in the selection of treatment strategies for patients with platinum-resistant or -refractory ovarian cancer
- Identify optimal chemotherapeutic options for the management of advanced uterine cancers
