Lecture Overview

Current Trends in Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Myeloma is a regional symposium designed to provide updates on the treatment and management of leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma based on data presented at major national hematology conferences in 2009.  Participants will learn about these advances in a 1-day session through presentations by key thought leaders, interactive case discussions, and question-and-answer opportunities. The overall objective of this meeting is to provide updates on treatment options that can be integrated into the treatment of patients with various hematologic malignancies as well as enhance awareness of novel agents in development in order to increase the number of patients enrolled in clinical trials.

This educational program is directed toward medical oncologists and hematologists interested in the treatment of patients with hematologic malignancies. Fellows, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, researchers, and other health care professionals interested in the treatment of hematologic malignancies are also invited to attend.

At the conclusion of this symposium, you should be able to:

  • Outline new developments in the identification of predictive and/or prognostic biomarkers that provide the rationale for choosing specific treatment strategies in various hematologic malignancies
  • Summarize new data that might influence current treatment and monitoring strategies for patients with newly diagnosed leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma
  • Evaluate the safety and efficacy of recent clinical advances relative to standards of care in the management of patients with relapsed/refractory leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma
  • Assess the efficacy and safety of emerging novel agents for the treatment of patients with leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and benign hematologic disorders
  • Evaluate the current role of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in outcomes for patients with hematologic malignancies
