Lecture Overview

The Emerging Trends in Oncology: Gastrointestinal Cancers activity is an on-demand webcast  representing  the most highly-rated live presentation from a series of 1-day seminars designed to present practicing medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists; hematologists; nurses; and other clinicians with a synthesis of key data presented at the 2008 major national oncology conferences. This activity has been designed to update physicians on recent advances and new treatment modalities in the management of gastrointestinal malignancies. Online publication provides availability of key data to locoregional practicing physicians by leading faculty who present recommendations about clinical challenges faced in the daily management of patients with gastrointestinal cancers.

This educational activity is intended for medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists; hematologists; and fellows practicing in the community or academic institutions. Nurses, physician assistants, and other individuals interested in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers are also invited to participate. Gastrointestinal Malignancies
    • Assess the role of molecular markers of response in optimizing therapeutic decisions for patients with previously untreated colorectal cancer (CRC)
    • Integrate the use of biologic agents, such as anti–epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and anti–vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) agents, in combination with chemotherapy into the treatment of previously untreated or refractory metastatic CRC based on recommendations from analyzed clinical trial results
    • Determine how to treat advanced hepatocellular carcinoma based on results from recent clinical trials of targeted biologic agents, such as multitargeted kinase inhibitors, anti-EGFR agents, and anti-VEGF agents
