Lecture Overview
This on-demand Webcast is from the Rapid Reviews in Oncology: Breast Cancer Highlights program held on June 4, 2009.
The Rapid Reviews in Oncology: Breast Cancer Highlights program will cover new data on breast cancer diagnosis and treatment from recent international meetings. This program is designed to answer key questions on potentially practice-changing developments in the field of breast oncology and to provide a framework for integrating these developments into daily practice. Topics will include locoregional therapy, risk assessment and prognostic/predictive factors. In addition, the latest advances in chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, targeted therapy, novel agents, and combination regimens being evaluated in patients with early-stage and advanced breast cancer will also be discussed. Presentations of key data will be followed by an interactive session where participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of experts in the field of breast cancer.
This educational activity is designed to be of high clinical utility to medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, and radiation oncologists with an interest in the treatment of breast cancer. Physicians’ assistants, research nurses, and fellows with an interest in the treatment of patients with breast cancer are also invited to participate.
Upon completion of this educational activity, you should be able to:
- Evaluate genomic and proteomic tools for the assessment of recurrence risk, prediction of benefit from chemotherapy, and individualization of therapeutic decision making
- Debate adjuvant endocrine options, including timing and sequencing of aromatase inhibitors in adjuvant regimens and the integration of bone-targeted agents for postmenopausal patients
- Assess data, including patient selection and alternative dosing schedules, from clinical trials investigating adjuvant chemotherapy regimens
- Discuss the biologic rationale for HER2-targeted therapies as well as recent results with novel HER2-directed agents in early-stage and advanced/metastatic breast cancer
- Individualize the management of patients with chemotherapy-naïve and chemotherapy-refractory advanced breast cancer, including the incorporation of novel cytotoxic and biologic agents
- Review novel classes of targeted biologic agents and cytotoxic therapies currently under investigation for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer
- Describe currently available and investigational agents for improving bone health in patients undergoing endocrine treatment for breast cancer
- Guide patients to promising clinical trials
