  • Explain the clinical utility and limitations of sentinel lymph node biopsy
  • Integrate current staging guidelines into clinical decision making regarding local and systemic therapies
  • Discuss advances in breast cancer imaging and early detection, including mammography, ultrasound, MRI, and PET scanning
  • Integrate prognostic and predictive factors for breast cancer into patient management decisions and assess the optimal means of HER2 and hormone receptor expression analysis
  • Assess optimal radiation therapy strategies for treatment of patients with DCIS, early-stage, and locally advanced breast cancer
  • Critically analyze the data guiding the choice of adjuvant chemotherapies, endocrine therapies, or targeted agents for patients with low- and high-risk breast cancer and for elderly patients
  • Evaluate the evidence guiding treatment recommendations for the management of patients with hormone-dependent and hormone-independent metastatic breast cancer
  • Evaluate organ-specific therapeutic interventions for patients with metastatic disease to the CNS and skeleton
  • Integrate palliative care strategies into treatment algorithms for metastatic disease
  • List novel chemotherapies and targeted agents currently under evaluation for the treatment of advanced and early-stage breast cancer
  • Describe current and emerging strategies for ameliorating or eliminating therapy-associated adverse events
  • Assess the evidence supporting an emphasis on quality of life and rehabilitation during and after breast cancer treatment
  • Refer appropriate patients to promising clinical trials
