Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, you should be able to:
- Discuss emerging agents for previously untreated MM, including immunomodulatory agents, proteasome inhibitors, and novel anthracycline formulations
- Integrate novel treatment regimens into the management of CLL, including monoclonal antibodies in combination with growth factors, purine analogues, and other targeted agents
- Analyze the safety and efficacy of immunomodulatory and hypomethylating agents, growth factors, and novel agents for the optimal management of MDS
- Discuss emerging treatment options for the optimal management of NHLs
Overview and Purpose
Treatment options for hematologic malignancies are constantly evolving, leaving medical oncologists and hematologists with a range of treatment decisions further complicated by increasing knowledge on new subtypes of hematologic malignancies. It is imperative that hematologists maintain an extensive knowledge base, including current clinical trial data, to ensure that patients receive the most effective care for their disease.
This activity is from the live Rapid Reviews in Oncology: Clinical Developments in Hematologic Malignancies held on December 10, 2009. The program is designed to update practicing medical oncologists and hematologists on the management of and emerging treatment options for multiple myeloma (MM), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
The overall objective of this program is to provide updates on options that can be integrated into the current treatment algorithms for patients with hematologic malignancies as well as enhance awareness of novel agents in development to increase the number of patients enrolled in clinical trials.
Target Audience
This program is directed primarily toward medical oncologists and hematologists. Physicians’ assistants, nurses, fellows, pharmacists, and all members of the hematology/oncology field who are interested in the treatment of cancer are also invited to participate.
