Approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™
In this program, we had asked participants to submit questions to the faculty about the material. The selected questions are now available to view. Expert responses to these questions will be provided at a later date.
The 2 major maintenance trials presented at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) examined “continuation maintenance” therapy, while the approved agents were investigated in the context of “switch maintenance” therapy. Which approach would you recommend outside a clinical trial?
While one phase III trial of maintenance gemcitabine reported a significant PFS benefit at ASCO 2010, another phase III trial of maintenance gemcitabine did not. Why do you think that different outcomes were observed in these 2 trials?
Should maintenance pemetrexed be administered to a patient who received first-line pemetrexed plus platinum?
Maintenance pemetrexed is a reasonable option for patients with nonsquamous NSCLC. Would maintenance pemetrexed plus platinum be better?
Should patients be tested for EGFR mutation status if erlotinib is being considered as maintenance therapy in advanced NSCLC? What about KRAS mutation status?
How do you select patients who are good candidates to receive maintenance therapy and who should be offered a treatment break with close monitoring for disease progression? Is quality of life and/or toxicity a factor in your decision making?
